Protecting Your Data

A recent study by the Internet Storm Center revealed that an unpatched Windows PC connected to the Internet will be compromised by malware (viruses, worms, etc.) in about 20 minutes.

CCLD has taken steps to secure network traffic while allowing customers to take advantage of one of the most robust convention center networks in the country.  However, this is by no means the same as being protected by a corporate firewall.  There are many steps you can take to secure your devices no matter the location.

  • Do not use common passwords.
  • Change your password frequently.
  • Disable any unnecessary Windows services.
  • Keep all Windows patches up to date . Microsoft releases fixes and patches on a monthly basis.
  • Only open attachments if you know the source and are expecting it. If you have questions regarding the legitimacy of an e-mail, contact the sender prior to opening it.
  • Keep all virus software up to date, and schedule regular scans of your PC.
  • If you are using a computer rental company, be sure to verify that they are providing PCs with the most up-to-date Windows patches and virus software with current virus definitions.

If you have any questions, or we can be of service prior to your event, please contact us at 404.222.5500 or e-mail your questions to help@ccld.net .
